Atia Abawi is on a mission to open minds, create empathy and understanding, and bridge divides with a hope to create social change.

The first step to understanding other people and groups is to try and understand and engage with them. Discussing differences between people, groups, religions and countries is ultimately empowering as it always leads to discovering the similarities and connections.

As an author, a journalist and an activist, Atia has spent years engaging with people and communities here in the United States and while living abroad for more than a decade. She has spent time traveling through dozens of countries all over the world always finding ways to connect with the people and communities in them.

In our ever-shrinking world, thanks in part to advancing technology, we are more connected than ever. Unfortunately, those connections don’t always happen on a human level and are often superficial. It’s necessary to create bridges of understanding. Once we can find empathy we can make the changes we need in our world and communities.
